Graduation Guidelines

Academic Expectations and the BCIS Diploma

Bangkok Christian International School is committed to a challenging college preparatory program, emphasizing social responsibility, self-discipline and international understanding. BCIS students are encouraged to strive for their personal best in all they do. Ninety-nine percent of students matriculate to a four-year university upon graduation; hence the curriculum is structured for students applying to competitive universities worldwide.

Credits

1. One credit is granted for the successful completion of a course meeting every day over the semester.
2. One-half credit is granted for the successful completion of a course which meets 2-4 periods per week over the semester.
3. One-quarter credit is granted for the successful completion of a course that meets only once a week over one semester
4. "Successful Completion" is defined by receiving a grade of D- through A+ or Satisfactory (S).

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Grade point average is calculated on a 4.0 scale with an A receiving 4.0, B - 3.0, C - 2.0, D - 1.0 and an F receiving 0.0 and no credit. The Grade Points for each course are weighted according to the credits of the course. A student's GPA is calculated for only those courses taken at BCIS.

Repeated Courses

Courses may be repeated for credit. The highest grade will be calculated for the GPA; however, every failed course will remain on the transcript.

Good / Satisfactory Conduct Certificate

The Satisfactory Conduct Certificate is granted to those students who have not been suspended or caught in a major violation of the Student Expectations. (Note: chronic minor violations can lead to suspension) The Good Conduct Certificate is granted to those students who have demonstrated exemplary conduct over the course on one academic year.

Community Service Certificate

The Community Service Certificate is granted to those students who participate in at least 15 hours of Community Service as MOE requirement.
